Description

"Dogpile" is internet slang for a group collectively piling onto one person with criticism, mockery, complaints, or hostile attention. It presents the group’s behavior as excessive and crowd-driven, often suggesting that individual comments become repetitive once everyone joins in. The term is especially common in discussions of online communities, moderation, fandom disputes, and public callouts. Its tone is usually critical, because describing a response as a dogpile implies that the target is being overwhelmed rather than fairly engaged.

Example

— I made one typo in the group chat. — Too late, the dogpile has begun; three people brought screenshots and someone is preparing a PowerPoint.

A single misplaced comma summoned a full dogpile of angry grammar detectives, all circling the sentence as if it had stolen their lunch money.

Some of it legitimate as the community likes to dogpile and become repetitive to the point of unhelpfully just making themselves mad in a circle. But very often less so, banning even legit or soft criticism paired with unkind responses.
